Study From the Epistle to Hebrews, 12
Today is the 12th part of this series where we study chapter 11 and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In this iconic chapter of this great epistle that was directed to Jewish converts but also to us now, the writer (most likely Apostle Paul) talks about Faith.
Faith as it was demonstrated by the biblical giants of the Old Testaments like Noah, Abraham, Moses etc. They manifested their faith in different ways as that explained in this chapter. Without faith it is impossible to please God.
Structure:
Verses 1:3: By faith we understand
Verses 4:7: faith at the dawn of history
Verses 8:12: faithful Abraham
Verses 13:16: the heavenly hope
Verses 17: 22: the faith of the patriarchies
Verses 23:29: the faith of Moses
Verses 30: 40: by faith they overcome
Principle 21: verse 11: 1: “-Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Lesson 21: faith is not wishful thinking or believing what we know isn’t true, instead, it is the conviction that God will always do what He promises to do, regardless of the circumstances.
Principle 22: verse 11:6: “- But without faith it is impossible to please Him...”
Lesson 22: faith declares our weakness while it proclaims the trust-worthiness of God and His complete and willing ability to do what we cannot. A lack of faith insults God even as it puts foolish confidence in us. 14/6/2020
