Study From the Epistle to Hebrews, 10
Today is the tenth part of this series where we study chapter 9 and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
Remind ourselves that the letter was written mainly to the Jewish converts who still although they believed in the Lord, they continued in offering sacrifices in the Temple, fearing persecution by the other Jews. So the writer reminded them, also us, of the Temple of Solemen (or Tabernacle at the time of Moses). There was a veil then a part that only priests entered. Then there was second veil to the Holiest part of all. The latter was entered only by the high priest once a year to shed sample of blood of the sacrifices that was offered for the sins of the people (including himself). That was only a shadow of the Lord Jesus when the Lord shed His blood in the Cross and His sacrifice is sufficient to forgive sins of all the mankind who believe in Him. As the Lord Jesus is eternal so His sacrifice is also eternal.
Structure:
Verse 1:5: the earthy sanctuary
Verse 6:15: Limitation of the earthy service.
Verse 16: 28: the mediator’s death necessary.
Principle 17 verse 9:14 : “—how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”
Lesson 17: None of us have to live with unresolved guilt. Jesus wants to take our accusing consciences and wipe clean with His blood, enabling us to serve Him with joy and without the slightest bit of shame.
Principle 18: verse 9:27 : “ – it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement.”
Lesson 18: Non of us avoid death and judgement (although there is no judgement for those in Christ, as the believers will stand before Christ to give account of their works they did on earth). Satan’s biggest lie is that there is nothing like that would happen after death. However unless we are alive when the Lord returns, all of us will die; and every person in history will answer to God for how they lived.31/5/2020
