Study From the Book of Hebrews,1
Today we start studying this important book of the Scripture. There is no named writer but most scholars say that it was the apostle Paul who wrote it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
It was written to the converted Jews who to avoid persecution of the fellow unconverted ones tried to be in the middle of mixtures of the Law of Moses and the Christian faith. So the job of the writer was to say to them ,in a convincing way, that it is not allowed basically because Christ is better than Moses, and the priesthood. His redemption work on the Cross is enough for the forgiveness of sins and the awarding eternal life.
This book also reminds us of the best way to persevere in the faith: “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
Theme: since Jesus Christ is superior in every way to the old covenant. it only makes sense to persevere in Him and so reap the amazing rewards God offers faithful believers.
Authors: unknown but most likely the apostle Paul.
Date: likely sometime before A.D 70
Structure: three sections
Chapters 1-10: Christ is better than the elements of the Old Testament.
Chapters 11and 12: plea for the Christian faith
Chapter 13: final exhortation.
