Study From the Epistle to Hebrews,4
Today is the fourth part of this series where we study chapter three of this important book of the Scripture and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
Chapter 3 talks first about a comparison between the Lord Jesus and Moses. Both were faithful to all their houses. However the house of Moses were the Israelites in the wildness of Sinai, but the house of the Lord us the church if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end (verse 6).
Therefore we must be faithful as the Holy Spirit says: “Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. Verse 7 repeated in verse 15.
The writer ends this chapter by recalling the Israelites while they were travelling in the wildness, most of the generation above 20’s years old did not enter the promised land because of unbelief.
Structure:
Verse 1:6: the Son was faithful
Verse 7:15: Be faithful
Verse 16:19: failure of the wilderness wanderers
Principle 5: verse 3:13- “..exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”
Lesson 5: None of us can progress i our faith or stay true to our Lord without the help and the encouragement of fellow believers. In fact we need this kind of healthy interaction every day.
Principle 6: verse 3: 18,19“- And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see they could not enter in because of unbelief.”
Lesson 6: There is direct and clear connection between unbelief and disobedience. When we disobey , because we do not believe either God’s promises of blessings or His warnings against rebellion. 19/04/2020
