Study From the Book of Habakkuk, 3
Biblical principles 4 (2:4) “Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but just shall live by his faith.”
Lesson 4: Why does God contrast pride with faith? Because, as C.S. Lewis noted, pride is completely anti-God state of mind, but the just looks to God for everything. We are created dependant on God. The fall of Adams and Eve is simply because of pride. They thought, in part because of the deception of the Devil, that they can rely on themselves not on God.
Biblical principle 5(3:2) “- In wrath remember mercy.”
Lesson 5: The psalmist asked, “If you, Lord , should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand.” (ps. 130:3). The answer is, “ nobody.” Even when God must act to judge sin, He still shows mercy.
Biblical principle 6 (3:18) “ Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”
Lesson 6: How should we respond when our situation seems dire, even hopeless? What should we do when God appears silent, even not interested? Oftentimes, trusting God means looking beyond what we can see to what God sees. But that can be difficult with our finite minds. We needs to surrender to God’s awesome wisdom, believing that all things work together for good for those who love the Lord ( Romans 8:38).
