Study From the Book of Genesis,8

Study From the Book of Genesis,8

Today we study chapter 8 of the Book of Genesis. I choose two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in Biblical Counselling.

God, in His great mercy, remembered Noah. God faithfully loved the people whom He had covenanted. It Took one hundred and fifty days for the waters to recede as it took for them to rage over the earth. The surging of the waters had been great that the mountains had been submerged. The rain had come for forty days, now the ark was subsiding for forty days also.

The flight of the raven was observed from the ark; this hardy bird kept flying until it was able to locate land. However, the gentler bird, the dove, sought land and came back with the olive leaf which is a symbol of peace and restoration.

After a full year, the waters had returned to their place. As in the beginning, God had again brought the waters of the earth into their place, and He had dried the earth. The Flood began in Noah’s year 600, month 2, day17 and ended in Noah’s year 601, month 2, day 27.

The fact that God spoke to Noah is another mark of God’s great grace and how much He valued Noah. As God called Noah and his family to enter the ark, so now with all danger passed He graciously invited them to go out of the ark.

Noah the first thing he did was to build an alter and to offer sacrificial worship. Yet we may assume that the principle of sacrificial worship was perpetuated through the line of faithful people, pointing to the Lord Jesus who offered Himself as the sacrifice to redeem us from the wages of sin which is death. In joyful and magnificent devotion to the Lord, Noah scarified from all the clean animals and birds he had preserved on the ark. These sacrifices were acceptable and pleasing to God. The Lord received Noah’s offering as an act of devotion to Him. God then said this awful devastation of the earth will never happen again.  Nonetheless, the promise of God is that overwhelming judgment will not be repeated -not until the final judgement

Structure

Verses 1:19: Noah’s deliverance.

Verses:20-22: God’s covenant with Noah.

Principle 13: verse: ---“Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.”

Lesson 13:  God aways remembers His people, not merely to recall their existence or names, but to act in grace towards them…even if they must wait for Him to act.

Principle 14: verse 8:22: ---“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.”

Lesson 14: God’s promises mean the difference between life and death. Even when things look darkest, we can rely on His trustworthy Word. 26/10/2025.
