Study From the Book of Genesis,7

Today we study chapter 7 of the Book of Genesis. I choose one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in Biblical Counselling.

The command to take seven of every clean animal is a new detail. The additional clean animals could be used for food and for sacrifice once the waters subsided.  Noah was six hundred years old and when he was five hundred years, he became a father. The time now come for the family and the animals to enter the ark. The events of these few verses summarize the immense labour; yet the gathering of the animals must have been largely the work of the Lord. The animals seem to have been drawn to the ark by the Lord.

The Lord ,who had drawn them, now closed the door on them. That door shut was a symbol of closure, safety, and God’s deliverance. The rain from above and below lasted for forty days.  The number of forty is a significant number representing a special fullness of time. Four times, the waters prevailed is used to mean to be strong or to be mighty. The flood covered the whole of the earth.

Without exception death extended to every creature. People died-old and young beautiful and brave. Only Noah and those with him escaped the terrible universal death of the wicked. The Lord Jesus affirmed the historicity of the days of Noah and the Flood as a pattern of the final judgement.

Structure:

Verses 1-24: the great Flood.

Principle 12: verse: “Then the Lord said to Noah, ‘come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in the generation.’”

Lesson 12:  We are righteous as believers after we believe in the Lord Jesus not because of our deeds but because of Him. The ark is a symbol of the Lord Jesus. Those who abide in Him are safe from the final judgement that should happen as the end of the age.19/10/2025.
