Study From the Book of Genesis,24
Today we study chapter 24 of the Book of Genesis. I choose two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in Biblical Counselling.
The passage tells us how an unnamed servant of Abraham found a suitable wife Rebekah (the name means “ensnaring beauty”) for Isaac. She was of the family circle of Abraham. The account is marked by a lingering style, with the loving details and reputation so treasured by the story-tellers in Hebrew tradition. Above all it records the kind providence of the Lord toward His people.
It is surprising that Bethuel her father was not more active in these proceedings. Perhaps he was aged or infirm; in any event, Laban, Rebekah’s brother seems to be making decisions. It appears that the family of Bethal and Laban also worshipped the living God.
Isaac brought Rebekah to his mother’s tent and loved her. Only rarely in the Bible do we read of romance love. But the Song of Songs rhapsodize on it. Isaac sense of grief at the death of his mother was now replaced by joy in the newness of married love. The story is lovely as it stands- a dramatic portrayal of God’s kind providence towards His people.
Structure
Verses: 1-67: a bride for Isaac.
Principle 41: verse 24:1: ---“Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.”
Lesson 41: Would you like to be blessed “in all things,” as Abraham was? Then you must follow Abraham’s example of trust and obedience, for that is the way to great blessings.
Principle 42: verse 24:7- “The lord God---will send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.”
Lesson 42: When we walk in faith and obedience, God sends His angels ahead of us to make sure we arrive at a place of blessing.15/02/2026.
