Study From the Book of Galatians, 6

Study From the Book of  Galatians,6

Today we study the fifth chapter of this vital epistle of Paul. As usual, we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.

Chapter 5 is a vital chapter of the epistle, where Paul explains further what that means by walking in the Spirit and do not follow the desires of the flesh,   the old nature that we all inherited from Adam after the fall. Going back to obey the law of Moses would get us to bondage of what to do and what not to do.

However there is liberty in the Spirit. But that does not mean to use this liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love to serve one another.

Paul then goes to list the works of the flesh. People who do this will not inherit the kingdom of God. However for those believers who walk in the Spirit will do.

The fruit of the Spirit are 9 likewise as listed in this chapter.

NB. for those who are interested to explore more about the fruit of the Spirit and how they acquire them, they can refer to my book, “The Mustard Seed Counseling.”   AutherHouse publication 2016

The structure of the fifth chapter is as follow:

  1. From verse 1 to 6 : Paul describes the Christian liberty
  2. From verse 7 to 15: Paul explains how love fulfils the Law
  3. From verse 16 to 26, the end of this chapter: Paul describes the walking in Spirit which produce fruit.

Principle 9, verse 5:1: “ –Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

Lesson 9: In some ways, it is a lot easier to live by a set of rules. Do this , do not do that; sit here, do not sit there. But while living by rules may seem easier, in fact it is not living at all: “the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Cor. 3:6).

Principle 10, verse 5:16:  “I say then: walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

Lesson 10: walking requires effort. However this effort is rewarded by living the life of full of fruit. Please note fruit is in singular not in pleural which implies it is all that can acquired. By the help of the Holy Spirit this can be achieved without much effort.  14/4/2019
