Study From the Book of Galatians,5

Today is the fifth part of this series where we study chapter 4 of this vital book of the Bible. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.

In chapter 4, Paul continues in warning the Galatians of sliding back to the Law of Moses of all its bondage. He gave vivid example from the OT of Abraham who had two sons. One was from the bondwoman “Hager” and the other from the free “Sarah.”

The one from the bondwoman was born according to the flesh and he from the freewoman through the promise. The he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now.  

The command of God to Abraham was clear, “cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.”   

Chapter four has three main topics:

1. From verse 1 to verse 7: Paul continues to talk about the sons and heirs
2. From verse 8 to 20: Paul talks about his fears for the church
3. From verse 21 to 31: Paul talks about the two covenants.

Principle 7, verse 4:4,5- “.. God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, to redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”

Lesson 7: God adopts us into His heavenly family the moment we place our faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. Because He accepts us just as He accepts His Son, we are “joint heirs with Christ.”

Principle 8, verse 4:6: “-And because you are sons. God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out ‘Abba Father’.”

Lesson 8: following the above, God did not bring us into His family to be our step father, but to be our beloved and approachable Daddy and His Spirit assures us. Abba is an Aramaic term for “father” that suggest warmth, closeness, intimacy and mutual delight. So what a privilege we have! 7/4/2019
