                Study From the Book of the First Thessalonians,2

Today is the second part of this series where we study chapter one. As mentioned in the introduction, the main subject of this letter is the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In chapter one, the apostle Paul praises the Thessalonians for their faith that shows in work, love that shows in labour and hope that shows in patience. These characters had been shown in the believers there and they become examples for believers elsewhere   in Macedonia and Achaia.

This short chapter can be structured as follows:

Verse 1: greeting.

Verse 2:10: Their good example.

Principle 1: verse 1:3: “...your work of faith, labour in love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Lesson 1: Faith gets to work, love has its labour, and hope requires patience. A balanced and effective Christina life features all three-faith, hope and love-working together to prepare us for the return of Christ, the main topic of this letter.

Principle 2: “- And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit.”

Lesson 2: the world does not see how “joy” and “affliction” can possibly go together but throughout the Bible we see the two of them paired up. A life of faith may entail suffering, but it also comes with joy.8/9/2019
