Study from the Book of First Peter,5
Today is the fifth part of this series where we study chapter four. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In chapter four the Apostle Peter continues what he starts in chapter three to talk about the suffering of Christ. Those who suffer in the flesh share with Christ, what He suffered for us. Another reason for suffering in the flesh is to cease from sin. "So you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you "(verse 4).
Then he talks about the glory of God. Lets who serve one another serve in love to show the glory of God to others. Again, those who suffer, suffer also for the glory of God. As "do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you as though some strange thing happens to you," (verse 12).
Structure:
Verses 4-6: Christ’s suffering and ours
Verses 7-11: serving for God’s glory
Verses 12-19: suffering for God’s glory
Principle 7 , verse 4:8 : “- And above all things have fervent love for one another. For love will cover a multitude of sins.”
Lessons 7: Even in the best of churches and the most godly of homes, things go wrong. What we do then? The place to start and end is to choose to imitate God’s love to us and bear with one another.
Principle 8, verses 4:19 , “ – Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good as a faithful Creator
Lesson 6: We need to realise that it is God’s will for us to suffer at some points along the way of life’s journey. We are “appointed” to it and to “glory” in it. Only trust in God enables us to endure. 13/12/2020
