Study From the Book of First Peter

Study from the Book of First Peter,4

Today is the fourth part of this series where we study chapter three. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

In chapter 3 the Apostle Peter commands wives to submit to their husbands. Sarah is the best example as she called her husband Abraham lord. Also the husbands need to give honour to their wives lest their prayers may not be hindered.

He then commands us to have compassion to one another, love as brothers in Christ. He then encourages the believers who suffer for righteousness’ sake and not be afraid of the wicked threats and not be troubled. Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.

Structure:

Verses 1:6: wives submit to husbands

Verses 7: A word to husbands

Verses 8:12: called to blessings

Verses 13:17: suffering for right and wrong

Verses 18:22: Christ’s suffering and ours

Principle 5, verse 3:7 : “—Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding , giving honour to the wife…that your prayers may not be hindered.”

Lessons 5, Men and women are co-heirs of God’s promises, and He wants us to treat each other as we would treat Him. Here is one condition of hindering one’s prayer: for those who do not honour their wives.

Principle 6 , verses 3:15, “—always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”

Lesson 6: If someone were to ask you today, why you are a Christian, what would you say? How would you answer someone who said there are many ways to God? How would you defend your belief in the resurrection of Christ? 6/12/2020
