Study from the Book of First Peter,3
Today is the third part of this series where we study chapter two. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In chapter two the Apostle Peter continues to emphasize the importance of reading the Word of God. It is as important as milk is important for babies. Then he talks about the precious stone that refers to the Lord Jesus; He codes what is written in Isiah 28:16 that “Behold I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious. And he who believes on Him will no means be put in shame.”
He then commands us to abstain from fleshy lusts which war against the soul and a honourable conduct among the Gentiles who observe the good deeds and glorify God in the day of visitation.
Lastly in this chapter, the Apostle Peter commands us to submit to government and to our masters.
Structure:
Verses 1-10: Enduring the Word
Verses 11:12: living before the world
Verses 13: 17: submission to government
Verses 18:25: submission to masters
Principle 3, verse 2:2 : “—as new-born babies , desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby—"
Lesson 3: As infants have a taste and craving for mothers’ nutritious milk, so we are to develop a taste and a craving for the life-giving Word of God. Growing in Christ requires that we spend time in His Word.
Principle 4 , verses 2:9, “—But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people.”
Lesson 4: Peter uses a flurry wonderful description to portray the exalted position we enjoy as believers in Christ. God calls us “chosen” and “royal” and “holy” and “special”, so that we might begin to act like who we really are. 29/11/2020
