Study From the Book of the First Peter,2

Study from the Book of First Peter,2

Today is the second part of this series where we study chapter one. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

The Apostle Peter writes to the pilgrims of the dispersion around the black sea costal area who face persecution because of their faith. He encourages them through, now for a little while. they have been grieved by various trials, they will have the inheritance in heaven. This inheritance is incorruptible and undefiled and does not fade away, reserved for them in heaven (1Peter 4). He then affirms them to be holy, as obedient children, not conforming themselves to the former lust as in their past ignorance. So, they need to be holy as the One called them is holy.

They had been redeemed not with corruptible things like silver or gold, from their aimless conduct received by tradition of their fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ as a lamb without blemish and without spot. Having been born again not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, though the word of God which lives and abides forever.

Structure:

Verses 1:2: greeting to the elect pilgrims

Verses 3:12: heavenly inheritance

Verses13:21: living before God Our father

Verses 22:25: the enduring word

Principle 1, verse 1:3 : “- according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ—”

Lesson 1: Because we do not have a dead Saviour, we have a living hope. The resurrection of Jesus guarantees that God will honour all His promises to His faithful children. That hope keeps us going in the darkest of times.

Principle 2 , verses 1:15, “—As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct—”

Lesson 2: Holiness is not a dour, grim-face determination to do the religious things that drain all enjoinment out of life. God is a delightfully joyful God. He invites us to join in His joy by imitating His ways. This is not contradict His holiness.  He is a holy God commands us to be holy as He is holy.22/11/2020
