Study from the Book of First Peter
Today we start studying the epistle of First Peter and as usual we start by introduction. The Apostle Peter writes his letter to the pilgrims of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia (Black sea costal area). At the time of writing his letter to them they face a fierce persecution, so he writes this letter to them to encourage them and also to encourage the current Christians in different parts of the world who faces persecution because of their faith. He tells them they must keep both their characters and conduct above reproach. Peter wants them to know that they should not be surprised or dismayed if they face opposition and persecution, for Jesus Himself certainly faced both.
Indeed, believers should feel hope and joy whenever God asks them to share with Jesus in His suffering. “Rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.” (4:13).
Theme: suffering is part of walking with and severing Jesus Christ, it is not to be feared, but to be embraced.
