Study From the Book of the First John,6

Study From the Book of the first John,6

Today is the sixth and the final part of this series, where we study chapter five and as usual, we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.

In chapter five, the apostle John continues of what he started in the previous chapter about obeying God in faith. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

We are children of God. And who been born of God overcomes the world and this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith.

He then talks about the certainty of God’s witness. There are three that bear witness in heaven: The    Father, the Word (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. These three are one. In earth there are also three: The Spirit, the Water (the Word of God) and the Blood of Jesus. And these three agree as one.

He who has the Son has eternal life; he does not have the Son  of God does not have life. The apostle then encourages us to have confidence in prayer, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

He then stresses that whoever is born of God does not sin (or continue in sinning) and the wicked one (Satan) does not touch him.

Structure:

Verses 1-5: obedience in faith

Verses 6-13: the certainty of God’s witness

Verses 14-21: confidence and compassion in prayer.

Principle 9: verse 5:3: “—For this is the love of God , that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome, ”

Lesson 9: When  we try to obey God by our strength, we fail and we feel that His commandments are burdensome. However, when we rely on His Spirit to enable us to do what we cannot, we find a great joy in obedience.

Principle 10: verse 5:12: “ -  He who has the Son has life; he does not have the Son does not have life.”

Lesson 10: Have you asked the Lord Jesus to come into your heart through faith, forgive you of your sins and give you an eternal home in heaven? If you have, you have life, if you have not. you do not. 28/2/2021
