Study From the Book of the first John,4
Today is the fourth part of this series, where we study chapter three and as usual, we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.
In chapter three, the apostle John continues to talk about we ,as believers in Christ, are children of God and we know that when He (Christ) is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. The apostle encourages us to get hold of this hope. And who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure(verse3).
Whoever abides in Him(Christ) does not sin (or continue in sinning)and whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren. We know love because the Lord Jesus laid down His life for us. So, we should not love by word only but in deed and in truth. And this is the commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another as He gave us commandment.
Structure:
Verses 1-3: the children of God
Verses 4-9: Sin and the child of God
Verses 10-15: the imperative of love
Verses 16-23: the outworking of love.
Principle 5: 3:2 “- -we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”
Lesson 5: One day we will exchange our worn-out, sin-prone weak bodies for new models patterned after Jesus resurrection body-strong, ageless, free of all sin, and completely at home in the holy presence of God.
Principle 6: verse 3:6 “—Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.”
Lesson 6: Jesus said that those who “abide” in Him -draw near to Him, listen to His words and obey them-would bear “much fruit,” something that glorifies the Father. Fruitful believers have the power to avoid sin. 14/2/2021
