Study From the Book of First John,3

Study From the Book of the first John,3

Today is the third part of this series, where we study chapter two and as usual, we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.

In chapter two, the apostle John points out that with our new nature in Christ, we have the ability not to sin, But if that happens, we have an advocate with the Father , Jesus Christ the righteous.

Then, he talks about a test of knowing the Lord. The test is to keep His commandments. If someone says I know Him and does not keep His commandments, he is a liar and the truth is not in him or her.

The fellowship with Him: He is the light. But if we say we have a fellowship with Him, and walk-in darkness. we lie and do not practice the Truth.

The commandment is to love the Lord and one another not to love the world. The love the world is the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. These things are not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever (verse 17).

He then talks about the deception of the last hour. There are many antichrists at the present time. He who denies that Jesus is the Christ, is antichrist who denies the Father also. . And who abides in the Son and Father has the promise.  And this is the promise that He has promised us -eternal life(verse 25).

He then gives advices to the all members of the congregations: little children (not necessary young in age but also young in faith), fathers, young men.

We are the children of God.  He is the light. But if we say we have a fellowship with Him, and walk-in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

Structure:

Verses 1-2: We may not sin

Verses 3-11: test of knowing Him

Verses 12-14: their spiritual state

Verses 15-17: do not love the world

Verses 18-23: deception of the last hour

Verses 24-27: the truth abide in you

Verses 28-29: the children of God

Principle 3: 2:1, “- My little children, these things I write to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father and with the Son Jesus Christ.”

Lesson 3: As we are the children of God, we have the ability not to sin when we rely on the indwelling Spirit. Yet when we do occasionally sin by relaying on ourselves, Jesus helps us get back on track.

Principle 4: verse 2:19 “- they went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us they would have continued with us.”

Lesson 4: We do not know the hearts of those who made up our local church. We do not know that some do not know Jesus, until they abandon the faith.7/2/2021
