Study From the Book of the first John,2
Today is the second part of this series, where we study chapter one and as usual, we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.
In chapter one, the apostle John talks about the general theme of his letter: Life, Light, and Love.
He first talks about life in the Lord Jesus. He was from the beginning, which we have heard which we have seen and our hands have handled. He is the Word of life. Eternal life which is with Father and was manifested to us.
The fellowship with the Lord Jesus, He is the light. But if we say we have a fellowship with Him, and walk-in darkness. we lie and do not practice the Truth. We are sinners saved by the grace. The Blood of Jesus has cleansed us from all sins. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanness us from all unrighteousness.
Structure:
Verses 1-4: what was heard, seen, and touched
Verses 5-10: fellowship with Him and one another.
Principle 1: 1:3, “– that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.”
Lesson, 1: everything in the Bible has been given to us to help us and enable us to enjoy an intimate relationship with God. God’s top priority for our life is to walk in close fellowship with Him.
Principle 2, verse 1:4: “—And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.”
Lesson 2: There is a misinterpretation of this verse even with the believers as they say, God wants us to be happy.’ In fact, God wants us something better than happiness. He wants joy that comes only with obedience to Him. 31/2/2021
