Study From the Book of First Corinthians, 9
Today we study chapter 8 of this vital book of the Bible and as usual we pick a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.
Chapter 8 is very short chapter (only 13 verses), where the apostle Paul talks about the argument that been raised in the Corinthians’ church regarding, should we eat or not eat of the meat that were offered to idols. Apparently, the price was cheap, so it was affordable for poor people in the town.
Here the apostle Paul has laid a basic biblical principle which is we need to be sensitive to our conscience. If what we do (even it is not sinful by itself) make a weak believer in faith stumbles, just stop it for the sake of this weak believer.
Principle 15 , verse 8:1: “– Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.”
Lesson 15: God wants us to keep learning about Him and His ways, not merely to add to our storehouse of knowledge, but to better serve Him and His people. Knowledge plus love are all we need.
Principle 16, verse 8:6- : “- For us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.”
Lesson 16: Paul often speaks of the Father and the Son in equal but in a complementary ways. We serve one God through one Lord by one Spirit. 30/9/2018
