Study From the Book of First Corinthians,5
Today we study chapter 4 of this vital book of the Scripture and as usual we pick a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.
In chapter 4, the apostle Paul wants nothing from the Corinthians except to follow Christ example and indeed his example for the sack of their benefits and salvation and by the end the Lord should be glorified not him.
Principle 7, verse 4:7 “– For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive?”
Lesson 7: In an ultimate sense, human arrogance makes very little sense, because we never accomplish anything except by using the gifts, talent, energy, inspiration –even breath-that God gives to us.
Principle 8, verse 4:14 “ – I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you.”
Lesson 8: This is the basis of Jay Adams model of counselling “Nouthetic Counselling,” which is the confrontation of sin to warn someone what he/she is doing is wrong for the sake of their own benefits . Not just to embarrass or shame him/her . Paul learned such a loving attitude from Christ Himself. The Lord does not correct us in order to shame us, but because He loves us and wants to spare the pain that our sinful actions always bring. 26/8/2018
