Study from the First Epistle of Corinthians,1
Introduction
Today we introduce the first Corinthians. But before we dig deep into each chapter to look for biblical principles and lessons, we first study the outline of this book, the theme, author, date and structure. We need also to have some idea about the culture and the people of this city and understand the problems of the church that the apostle Paul founded.
Corinth was a famous costal Greek city. At the time of Paul, it was the centre of commerce. Yet the city dwelled in idolatrous and part of worshipping those false gods was sexual immorality.
The new born church struggled with the surrounding pagan culture to the extent that the sexual immorality infiltrated the church. They also abused the spiritual gifts and the Lord supper.
In the midst of all those diversity and problems, the apostle Paul wrote this letter.
Theme: How God wants believers in Christ to live in the midst of corrupt culture.
Author Apostle Paul
