Today is the fortieth  part of this series where we study chapter 40. Here we pick up one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in biblical counselling.

Many efforts are made to understand the details of Ezekiel’s vision in a such way that the prophecy might be described as fulfilled. However, attempts to do this have failed. Those who returned from exile did not use Ezekiel’s plan to rebuild Jerusalem. It is also difficult to interpret this prophecy as a symbolic description of the church in our age. 

The most confident statement we can make about the vision and its accompanying instruction is that the prophecy yet to be fulfilled when the Lord Jesus will reign in the millennium after the rapture of the church and the great tribulation when the Jews repented their sins and acknowledge Jesus as the Saviour.  

Structure:

Verses 1-5: a new city and a new temple.

Verses 6-16: the eastern gateway of the temple.

Verses 17-19: the out court

Verses 20-23: the northern gate

Verses 24-27: the southern gate.

Verses 28-37: gateways of the inner court

Verses 38-43: where sacrifices were prepared.

Verses 44-46: chambers for singers and priests

Verses 47-49: dimensions of the inner court and vestibule

Principle 62: verse 40:12 — “So he measured the temple---------------------------------.”

Lesson 62: God maintains control of events of history. When events seem chaotic, God reminds us to rest in His ability to bring order. Ezekiel’s vision of a new temple when the temple in Jerusalem had just been destroyed reassured the exiles: God would create beauty out of ashes. The people in Ezekiel’s day needed that vision of hope and we still need it today.   11/6/2023
