Study From the Book of Ezekiel,34

Today is the thirty-fourth part of this series where we study chapter 34. Here we pick up two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in biblical counselling.

God talks (in the words of Ezekiel) about the shepherds of Israel. This is a metaphor for Israel’s political and spiritual leaders. The shepherds were accused of forsaking the key features of godly leadership. They were selfish who seek to be served, rather than to serve. As the result the people of Israel wandered aimless and easily to attacked. They were scattered among the nations.

In contrast the Good Shepherd the Lord Jesus the descendant of the King David who said about Himself, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep (John 10:11).

The chapter is ended by a prophecy. That the Lord Jesus will reign at the millennium after the rapture of the Church. At that time, the dispersed Israelites will return to the promised land to experience peace and prosperity.  

Structure:

Verses 1-10: irresponsible shepherds

Verses 11-31: God the true shepherd.     

Principle 52: verse 34:15— “I will feed My flock and I will make them lie down, says the Lord God.”  

Lesson 52: The Lord does what He does with us for our benefit. He feeds us what He knows will give us health. He makes us lie down when we would rather keep moving. He is the Good Shepherd.

Principle 53: verse 34:31: --“you are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God, says the Lord God.”

Lesson 53: In both testaments, God calls His people His flock. Why? For one thing, it is a term of endearment and a picture of close, personal connection. For another, it reveals our total dependence upon Him. Third, it honours Him as our Guide.(9/4/2023).
