Study From the Book of Ezekiel,33
Today is the thirty-third part of this series where we study chapter 33. Here we pick up two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in biblical counselling.
In this chapter, Ezekiel changes the subject as he act as a watchman warning his people of Israelites of the consequences of sin and pleading them to repent reminding them of the covenant of God. This covenant had been approved by them. They had agreed to its commands and accepted the consequences of breaking them.
God then presented His rational for deciding who would be rewarded with life and who would suffer death. He would save those who repent and turn to Him, but would condemn those who trust in themselves and do evil. After presenting His rational, God declares that His judgement is just and fair.
The final message of comfort and consolation to the exiles in Babylon following the shock of the destruction of Jerusalem.
Structure:
Verses 1-11: the watchman and his message
Verses 12-20: the fairness of God’s judgement
Verses 21-29: the fall of Jerusalem.
Verses 30- 33: hearing and not doing.
Principle 50, verse 33:11 “—As I live, says the Lord, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live.”
Lesson 50: God does not want to judge anyone. He pleads with us to turn from our wicked ways and to return to Him with all our heart and all our soul. God will never reject anyone with a truly repentant heart.
Principle 51: verse 33:32: “--indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them.”
Lesson 51: the New Testament tells us that king Herod “feared” john the Baptist and heard gladly (Mark 6:20), until he killed him. Many people have their favourite preachers; the point, however is not merely hearing but doing (James 1:22). 2/4/2023.
