Today is the twenty-third part of this series where we study chapter 23. Here we pick up one biblical principle and its lesson which are useful in biblical counselling.

Here God explained to Ezekiel the history of Hebrews Israel (the mother). Two daughters, the northern Kingdom (Samaria) and the southern kingdom (Judah) were one nation and they did not split apart until the death of Solomon.

During the formative years of Hebrew nation in Egypt(its youth), the Israelites began practicing political and spiritual prostitution by conforming themselves to the ways of the world, worshiping idols and trusting in an earthly instead of heavenly power.

The elder sister Oholah( means: her own tabernacle) refers to Samaria and the younger sister, Oholibah (means: My tabernacle is here)  refers to Judah.

Samaria, because the first made political and idolatrous alliances with foreign nations was the first to be punished by foreign captivity through Assyrians.  Judah renewed its alliance with Egypt. Then God’s verdict was that He would judge Jerusalem through Babylon.

Structure:   

Verses 1-4: two harlot sisters.

Verses 5-10: the older sister, Samaria

Verses 11-21: the younger sister, Jerusalem.

Verses 22-35: judgement on Jerusalem

Verses 36-49: both sisters judged.  

Principle 38, verse 23:35 “—Because you have forgotten Me and cast Me behind your back, therefore you shall bear the penalty of your lewdness and your harlotry.”

Lesson 38: God will never “go quietly into that good night.” We may forget Him, but He will never forget us.  We may try to put Him behind our back, but He will always insist on receiving the glory that belong to Him alone(22/1/2023).
