Today is the eighteenth part of this series where we study chapter 18. Here we pick up a couple biblical principles and lessons that are useful in biblical counselling.

Israelites had a false belief that they were punished for the sins of the previous generations. God’s reply reminded them it had always been otherwise. Only the individual person who sins will die. In this verse, the physical, earthly consequences of sinful behaviour are being addressed.

God then lists what is morally right according to the Law of Moses. The individual does not participate in the following sins: 1. Idolatrous rituals. 2. Sexual misconduct. 3. Mistreatment of the poor. 4.thefts, or 5. Usury.

God further clarifies His teaching on individual responsibilities for sins by answering certain questions. God responds to their questions to reflect on this basic rule with recommendation to turn away from sins and live. Everyone is judged equitably and individually. God concluded that He never enjoy condemning a person, but is just and righteous in dispensing His judgment.

Structure:   

Verses 1-18: a false proverb refuted.

Verses 19-32: turn and live.

Principle 30, verse 18:4 “—Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine---.”

Lesson 30: As God is the Creator, every human being belongs to Him, so all of us on the planet are His offspring. Yet only those who place their faith in Christ belong to God as members of His heavenly family.

Principle 31, verse 18:32: --“For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies, says the Lord God. therefore, turn and live.”

Lesson 31: Death is the wages of sin, but God would rather we not pay it. He has already covered the cost of our sins in the death of His Son; we must simply accept His gift and to come to Him on His terms.18/12/2022
