Study From the Book of Ezekiel,17
Today is the seventeenth part of this series where we study chapter 17. Here we pick up one biblical principle and lesson that are useful in biblical counselling.
In this chapter God gives Ezekiel a parable to tell the Israelites. To understand this parable, we need to know what the characters which refer to: the great eagle refers to the king of Babylon, the other great eagle refers to the king of Egypt, Lebanon refers to Canaan, the topmost young twig refers to the nobility of Judah and the vine is the remanent and ruler left in Judah. This ruler failed to prosper because he made a treaty with the Egyptian pharaoh. As the result even the remnant was slain and scattered by Babylon army.
This chapter is ended with a prophecy of the Tender One, the Lord Jesus. Although it was fulfilled partially in the restoration under Zerubbabel, the greatest fulfilment is still to come in the reign of the Saviour King. The establishment of the Cedar Twig , the Messiah, over Israel will make the nation a fruitful and majestic cedar where diverse people will live in unity and harmony when all the nations will realise that the Lord is their Sovereign God and that He has accomplished what He said He would do.
Structure:
Verses 1-21: the eagles and the vine.
Verses 22-24: Israel exalted at last.
Principle 29, verse 17:24 “—And all the trees of the field shall know that I, the Lord , have brought down the high tree and exalted the low tree, dried up the green tree and made the dry tree flourish; I, the Lord have spoken and have done it.”
Lesson 29: The Lord wants us to remember that He is absolutely sovereign. If a nation rides high, it does so because He planned it. If a nation fails, it does so because He made ot happen. God rules among the nations (11/12/2022)
