Study From the Book of Ezekiel,1
Today is the first part of this series where we study chapter one and as usual, we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
Ezekiel was preparing to become a priest (when the Babylonians attacked Judah in 597 B.C), when he saw the visions of God. The word vision in Hebrew in this passage means to see, not just a prophetic vision. He saw 4 living creatures. These creatures are highly symbolic representation of deity, or as a highly symphonic representations of angelic beings who serve in God’s presence. Properly as angels since God Himself is not revealed until the end of this section in verse 26. These stunning angelic creatures are dazzling attendants to God’s majesty.
These fantastic figures of creatures are in the look of a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle. All connected to each other with wings and running on wheels to indicate flexibility and mobility. In the middle, Ezekiel saw the likeness of the glory of the Lord. The response of Ezekiel was to fell on his face in worship and submission.
Structure:
Verses 1-28: Ezekiel’s vision of God.
Principles 1: verse 1:1: “-----the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.”
Lesson 1: Ezekiel did not choose to see “visions of God” ; God took the initiative. “Prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they moved by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21).
Principle 2, verse 1:28: “----This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.”
Lesson 2: It is impossible to fully describe the splendour that is God. The best Ezekiel can do is to say, “It looked something like an expression of something else.” God’s glory is radically different from everything in the universe.31/7/2022.
