Study From the Book of Daniel, 8

Today is the eighth part of this series where we study chapter eight and as usual, we pick up one biblical principle and its lesson which are useful in biblical counselling. 

In this chapter Daniel had a vision of the ram represents Medo-Persia with two horns symbolize the people of Media and the people of Persia. Cyrus and his successors conquered the Babylon.

The goat represents Greece. The notable horn symbolizes Alexandre the Great who launched his attack against Persia in 334 B.C.  He subdued the Persian Empire without touching the ground as his conquest was so rapid that it seemed as he flew across the earth.
 

Alexandre the Great died at the height of his career before he was 33 years old. After his death, four of his generals carved up the Macedonian Empire.

The little horn here refers to Antiochus Epiphanes, the eighth king of the Syrian dynasty who reigned from 175 B.C. to 164 B.C.  Antiochus invaded Egypt, Parthia and Palestine. This little horn, like Lucifer aspired to be like God. He desecrated the house of God by erecting a statue of Zeus on the bronze alter for two thousand three hundred days, before   he was defeated by the Maccabees who cleansed the temple.

The indignation is that of the Lord against those who have rebelled against His dominion especially those living at the time just before the coming of Christ.

Structure:

Verses 1-14: vision of a ram and a goat

Verses 15-27: Gabriel interprets the vision.

Principle 15 verse 8:21: “---And the male goat is the kingdom of Greece. The large horn that is between its eyes is the first king."

Lesson 15: This prophecy about Alexandre the Great is so precise and clear that critics have tried to claim that it was written after the fact. God gives prophecies like this to build our trust in the truth and accuracy of His Word. 15/10/2023.
