Study From the Book of Daniel, 5
Today is the fifth part of this series where we study chapter five and as usual, we pick up two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in biblical counselling.
Belshazzar the grand son of Nebuchadnezzar made a feast and used the sacred vessels at the drunken orgy which was regarded as a deliberate defiance of the true God.
He then saw a hand wrote on the walls:
MENE MENE TEKEL UPHARSEN
Belshazzar was shocked as he could not understand what this was meant. He called the wise men in his empire to interpret the meaning but they failed. Then the queen told him about Daniel who was apparently a retired old man possibly in his 80s or older.
Daniel explained the writing as follow: God had numbered the days of Belshazzar’s kingdom; its time up and God had weighted Belshazzar the king and the king did not measure up to God’s standard. That very night Babylon fell into the Persian army.
Structure:
Verses 1-12: Belshazzar’s feast
Verses 13-29: the writing on the wall explained
Verses 30-31: Belshazzar’s fall.
Principle 9 verse 5:17: “---Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another---."
Lesson 9: Like Abraham, in Gen.14:23, long before him, Daniel had no interest in being rich by a wicked ruler. He also had no fear of Babylonian king, for he feared the Lord of all.
Principle 10: verse 5:23:” ---the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways----.”
Lesson 10: Whether men believe in God or not, He keeps them alive. Whether they serve Him or not, He gives them breath. Whether they revere Him or not, they remain alive at His good pleasure. God rules! 17/09/2023.
