Study From the Book of Daniel, 2
Today is the second part of this series where we study chapter two and as usual, we pick up two biblical principles and their lessons that are useful in biblical counselling.
Nebuchadnezzar had a dream troubled him. So, he gathered the sorcerers, astrologers and the wise men and told them to tell him the content of the dream and its interpretation. They asked him to tell them the dream and they would tell him the interpretation. He refused to tell them the content of the dream, not only that he started in killing them because of their failure. Daniel stepped up. Daniel despite his education and expertise, still knew the prayer to the omniscient God was the first step in this crisis situation. He prayed with his friends who raised the petition to the Lord with him.
The image that Nebuchadnezzar saw represented four kingdoms that would rule over the earth. The first empire-the head of gold -was Babylon. The second empire -the chest and arms of silver-was Medo-Persia. As silver is inferior to gold, so Medo-Persia was inferior to Babylon. The third empire -the belly and thighs of bronze-would be Greece. The fourth empire -the legs of iron- was the Romans.
The future events that have not yet been fulfilled in this scenario: the Roman empire will be revived and will be ruled over ten rulers (the toes). It will witness the return of Jesus Christ. Then the whole earth kingdoms will be destroyed by Christ at His second coming.
Structure:
Verses 1-13: Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.
Verses 14-23: God reveals Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.
Verses 24-45: Daniel explains the dream.
Verses 46-49: Daniel and his friends promoted.
Principle 3: “---so Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might tell the king the interpretation."
Lesson 3: before Daniel ever brought his urgent request to God, he demonstrated his trust in Him by telling the king that he would give him what he wanted. Trusting God means looking beyond what we can see to what God sees.
Principle 4:” --- the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed--.”
Lesson 4: When we face difficult situation, it can give us great hope to remember that whatever happens, we are intimately connected to the winning side. 27/8/2023.
