                          Study From the Book of Colossians, 2

Today is the second part of this series where we study chapter one. As mentioned in the introduction, the epistle of Colossians is a twin epistle of the one of Ephesians written by the Apostle Paul while he was in his prison in Rome. While the Ephesians, talks about the Church as the body of Christ, this epistles main subject is the Lord Jesus Christ as the Heat of the Church (the body).

The main idea of chapter one is the Characters of the Lord Jesus and His superiority and what the believers should be as they follow their Master. As usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.

The structure of this chapter is as follows:

1. From verse 1 to 2: greeting
2. From verse 3 to 8: the believers' faith in Christ
3. From verse 9 to 18: the superiority of Christ
4. From verse 19:23: the reconciliation in Christ
5. From verse 24 to 29: the sacrificial service for Christ

Principle 1: verse 1:10: “-walk worthy of the Lord fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the Knowledge of God.”     

Lesson 1: What is meant by “walk worthy,” of Jesus? It is by pleasing God when we depend upon His Spirit to do “good works.” It is also pleasing Him when we spend time in His Word, learning more about Him.

Principle 2 : “ –He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.”

Lesson 2: we are powerless to escape our slavery in the eternally dark kingdom of Satan, but God has the whole power and He exercised that power to bring us into the light and into the life of freedom provided by the Lord Jesus.  28/07/2019
