Study From the Book of Amos, 5*
Principle 8 (5:14): Seek good and not evil, that you may live; so the Lord God of hosts will be with you.”
Lesson 8: We find life when we find the Lord, and we seek good when we seek God. Christ delivers us from our sins, so we can joyfully live free of them.
Principle 9 (5:24): “But let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Lesson 9: God intends for our personal righteousness to prompt us to actions of community justice. “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar,” John says in 1 John 4:20.
Principle 10 (7:8): “Behold I am sitting a plumb line in the midst of My people of Israel; I will not pass by them anymore.”
Lessons 10: A plump line pictures God’s careful evaluation of the hearts and behaviour of His people. Sometimes He delivers His defiant people, who do not want to repent their sins, up “to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved” (1 Cor. 5:5).”
