Study From the Book of Amos, 4
Just to remind ourselves that Amos went to the northern kingdom, Israel, from Judah the southern kingdom at the time of Jeroboam II the king of Israel to deliver warning for people there to repent. However they did not respond, so judgment was inevitable.
Lesson 5, (4:2) The Lord God has sworn by His holiness...
Principle 5: The Lord had called Israel to be “a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”(Ex.19:6), but the people chose to spurn His holiness and go their own way instead. The only thing left was judgment.
Lesson 6, (4:11) I overthrow some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning; yet you have not returned to Me,“ says the Lord.
Principle 6, When we refuse to obey, God often gradually “turns up the heat” to prompt us to repent and turn back to Him. He does not want to send catastrophic judgment upon us, but uses affliction to get our attention.
Lesson 7, (5:14) Seek good and not evil, that you may live: so the Lord God of hosts will be with you---
Principle 7, we find life when we find the Lord, and we seek good when we seek God. Christ delivers us from our sins, so we can joyfully live free of them.
