Study From the Book of Acts,4
Today we study the fourth chapter of the Book of Acts and we choose two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in Biblical Counselling.
The Sadducees were disturbed by two reasons: first they rejected all the Old Testament except the books of Moses. Second, they denied the resurrection of the dead. Peter’s teaching about the resurrection challenged their beliefs and teachings. Besides, they were the leaders of the Jewish at that time. They came from wealthy families and close to the Romans authority.
The healing of the lame man was indisputable. The question now was how the man was healed and by whose authority or name the healing was performed. Peter filled with the Holy Spirit. The filling brought boldness for God’s work. Jesus had promised His disciples that they would stand before kings and rulers and that the Spirit of God within them would implant in their minds exactly what to say to those leaders.
The image of the cornerstone is used as both the chief stone and the stone at the corner of foundation. Peter used the phrase to point out that when the people rejected Jesus Christ, they rejected the One who completed the plan of God for humankind. Only by placing faith in the Lord Jesus-the One who came, dies and was raised again-can a person be saved.
Luke notes that for the early Christians, being filled with the Holy Spirit meant not only proclaiming the Word of God. But also sharing their possessions with those in need.
Structure:
Verses 1-4: Peter and John arrested.
Verses 5-12: addressing the Sanhedrin
Verses 13-22: the name of Jesus forbidden.
Verses 23-31: prayer for boldness
Verses 32-37: sharing in all things.
Principle 7: verse 4-12- “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Lesson 7: If God knew that Jesus really did not have to die, then He is an uncaring monster for sending Him to the Cross. And if He thought Jesus had to die when He really did not, then He wouldn’t be God.
Principle 8: verse 4:29- “Now, Lord look on their threats and grand to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your Word--.”
Lesson 8: In a world that does not respect God or honour Jesus, we must pray for boldness and strength to represent Him well and by our words and actions draw some into a saving relationship with Christ.23/2/2025.
