Study From the Book of Acts,19
Today we study the nineteenth chapter of the Book of Acts and we choose two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in Biblical Counselling.
The twelve men had been baptized into the baptism of John Baptist. But they had never heard about the Holy Spirit. They needed to hear the rest of the gospel. As soon as this happened, these men could place their faith in Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit.
From Ephesus, other churches were born in Asia Minor -in Colosse, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.
God confirmed Paul, apostolic authority by forming miracles through him. The miracles verified that the apostles represented God and that the gospel they preached was from heaven.
Some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists had latched onto the name of Jesus to use as an incantation. These seven men found out that it was not enough to know the name of Jesus; they needed to know Jesus personally.
Fifty thousand pieces of silver have taken ten labourers twenty years to earn. Burning these costly magic books indicated real repentance on the part of those who had practiced magic.
The riot at Ephesus could have brought the discipline of Rome down upon the city. The Pax Romana, the peace that the Roman Empire brought to the Mediterranean world, was important to Rome. Therefore, the empire severely disciplined unruly cities. The Romans would not tolerate any kind of uprising or rebellion; Ephesus risked its freedom and being ruled directly by the Roman army.
Structure:
Verses 1-10: Paul at Ephesus.
Verses 11-20: miracles glorify Christ
Verses:21-41: the riot at Ephesus.
Principle 37:19:11 --“---Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul--- .”
Lesson 37:19: The same Spirit who worked miracles through OT prophets such as Elijah and Elisha, and who performed great signs through the Lord Jesus and Peter, now worked similar miracles through Paul. Where faith meets God, extraordinary things happen.
Principle 38: verse 19:20:” ----So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed -.”
Lesson 38: God loves to honour His Word so that it grows mightily and prevails. If we want to be connected with such a mighty move of God, we must faithfully proclaim His Word through the power of His Spirit. 22/06/2025.
