Study From the Book of Ephesians, 6
Today is the sixth part of the series, “Study from the Book of Ephesians.” We study chapter 5 and as usual, we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling. Remind our readers that those biblical principles and lessons can be applied either as self-help or in counselling others.
Chapter 5 talks about the charterers of the church as a whole (body of Christ) and also as individuals. The apostle Paul argues the church members to walk in love, in light and in wisdom in a world full of darkness and deceptions. He ends up by description of the Christian marriage as a symbolic of the unity of the church and Christ.
So the structure of this chapter is as follows:
Principle 9, verse 5:8: “-For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light...”
Lesson 9: “Once” something had been in the past and now has changed. Now God intends that His children act as beacons of light in a dark world, as lighthouses showing the way to spiritual safety for those about to sink into the eternal hell.
Principle 10, verse 5:18 “... And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”
Lesson 10: filling with the Holy Spirit is the answer of all addiction problems. Comparing with alcohol, the person who gets drunk loses control, in contrast with filling with the Spirit, he/she gains control. It is one of the items of the fruit of the Spirit, self control.
