Study From the Second Epistle of Paul to Timothy,3
Today we continue in this series of the second letter of Paul to Timothy, where we study chapter two and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In chapter two, Paul gives his son in-faith invaluable advices. First, he encourages him to be strong in faith and not to be dragged to false teaching that always has been the case in the church,. Suffering for Cjrist is inevitable but to remember Him who died for us to give eternal life is worthy to die with Him, so we shall also live with Him (verse 11).
Paul also asks Timothy to look around to easily identify approved workers to work with, but disapproved ones whom he should stay away from them.
Structure:
Verse 1:13: advice to be strong in faith
Verse 14:26: the approved and the disapproved workers.
Principle 3: verse 2:1: “- You therefore my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”
Lesson 3:Paul does not encourage Timothy to just be strong, any pagan counsellor can do that. He encourages him instead to be strong in the grace of Jesus. Only in God’s strength can we become strong.
Principle 4: verse 2:7: “-consider what I say and may the Lord gives you understanding in all things."
Lesson 4: How we can gain spiritual understanding? First, we have to consider what God says in His Word, ponder it , turn it over and over in our minds. Then we have to pray that He enlightens our guest for understanding. Both work together. 26/1/2020
